TxDOT is pleased to announce that the new westbound frontage between SH 6 and Grand Parkway is now open to traffic. Accordingly, drivers in the area can expect various I-10 westbound entrance and exits ramps closures over the course of the next two weeks as the contractor transitions to the next phase* (Phase II) of Contract B construction.
+ Effective Thursday, February 5 the westbound entrance ramp to I-10 just west of Barker Cypress will be closed until further notice. The open house will take place immediately following the Associated General Contractors Monthly Meeting.
The I-10/Beltway 8 Interchange Reconstruction project includes reconstruction of 8 direct connectors & widening of I-10 to 4 mainlanes, 2 managed lanes, 3 frontage lanes in each direction. THE END OF CONSTRUCTION ON KATY FREEWAY IS NEAR - I-10 Eastbound Mainlanes Scheduled for Completion as Contractors Prepare for August 25th Closure of HOV Lane The much anticipated completion of the I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound mainlanes is approaching quickly as Texas Department of Transportation contractors bring to a close final paving and striping activities. The I-10 eastbound lanes will be completed and in its final configuration within the next several weeks providing drivers access to the full capacity of the new roadway as part of the Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program. These new I-10 eastbound mainlanes will consist of a minimum of four (4) continuous general purpose lanes with as many as eight (8) lanes at connector, entrance and exit ramps to ease traffic flow. With the opening of the new I-10 eastbound mainlanes, I-10/Katy Freeway HOV operations will close permanently effective Monday, August 25th as contractors begin final paving and striping of the I-10 westbound mainlanes and complete construction activities on the Katy Tollway/Managed Lanes. An inevitable phase of construction, the HOV closure has been timed with the completion of the I-10 eastbound mainlanes offering carpoolers and vanpoolers an additional lane while minimizing traffic disruptions to the greatest extent possible without compromising driver or worker safety. Special accommodations for METRO to maintain bus operations within a closed lane in the active construction area will be provided. For safety and liability reasons, carpools and vanpools will not be permitted to travel within the construction area. In an effort to provide timely re-entry to the new Katy Tollway/Managed Lanes, Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) anticipates phased in operations for carpools and vanpools upon completion of the project in late October 2008. This change in date will not compromise the expected completion of the I-10 westbound mainlanes and will offer HOV drivers an additional week to plan and prepare for their I-10 westbound commutes during the HOV closure. Traffic will detour west on Westview, south on Brittmoore to the I-10 westbound frontage road and U-turn at Wilcrest to access the I-10 eastbound frontage road to the Beltway 8 southbound frontage road. • Total closure of the Beltway 8-West northbound frontage road between Queensbury and I-10/Katy Freeway and the Beltway 8-West northbound frontage road flyover bridge from 5 AM, Saturday, July 14 until 5 AM, Monday, July 16. Traffic will detour east on Queensbury to Town and Country, north on Attingham to the I-10 eastbound frontage road. TxDOT in cooperation with the Harris County Toll Road Authority, Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office and the City of Houston Police Department will station law enforcement at key locations to facilitate the movement of traffic in the area. However, motorists are encouraged when possible to avoid the area. Motorists will be detoured to the respective frontage roads and law enforcement will be stationed throughout the area to facilitate the movement of traffic. In addition to this weekend’s closure, the I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound direct connector ramp to Beltway 8 southbound will permanently close effective 5 AM, Sunday, May 4 for demolition and reconstruction. The closure of this ramp marks the last of the eight ramp closures associated with the I-10/Beltway 8 Interchange Reconstruction and is expected to re-open October 2008. All I-10 eastbound traffic destined to Beltway 8 northbound and southbound will now be detoured to continue eastbound and take the Gessner exit, U-turn to the I-10 westbound frontage road, enter the I-10 westbound mainlanes and take the new I-10 westbound direct connector ramp to Beltway 8 northbound. Northbound traffic will continue north while southbound traffic will exit at Hammerly, U-turn to the Beltway 8 southbound frontage road and enter the Beltway 8 southbound mainlanes from Hammerly.
