IH-10 Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program
Lane Closures Announcement

July 7th marks the official start of 24/7 construction on IH-10

(Houston, Texas) --- Beginning July 7, two eastbound freeway lanes on IH-10 Katy Freeway will be closed nightly between Grand Parkway and SH 6 from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

The lanes will be closed for the pre-construction phase of the IH-10 Katy Freeway reconstruction for this section (Contract B) of the program, which includes an asphalt overlay of the existing mainlanes, diamond lanes, ramps, and shoulders. The overlay will first be done on the two inside lanes leaving the two outside lanes open for travel. Alternate lanes will be closed continuously until the overlay to the eastbound lanes is completed. The same construction phasing will be used to resurface the westbound lanes, once the work is completed in the eastbound direction. Of particular importance is the fact the same number of mainlanes open today will consistently remain open during peak period travel times. Additionally, July 7 marks the official start of the 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week construction schedule for this section of the freeway.

According to Raquelle R. Wooten, Spokesperson for the Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program, “TxDOT is committed to advancing the construction schedule of IH-10 Katy Freeway reconstruction by allowing the contractor to work around the clock. Where it is necessary to disrupt the normal flow of traffic to accomplish the work, the contractor will be encouraged to take advantage of off-peak periods of the day and thus reducing the inconvenience to the traveling public. In addition, there are more than $5 million in incentives built into the contract to motivate the contractor to meet or exceed the construction contract milestone dates and comparable penalties if milestones are not met.
