FREEWAY CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENTS
(Houston, Texas)--Starting tonight, October 24 at 9 p.m. through 5 a.m. Sunday, one left lane of both the north and southbound mainlanes of I-610 between US 290 and San Felipe will be closed. Additionally, drivers can expect delays in the vicinity of the I-10/I-610 interchange over the course of next week due to scheduled nighttime closures as construction crews continue work on the interchange reconstruction. The work on the mainlanes will be performed at night between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. and work on the frontage lanes will begin at 8 p.m. through 5 a.m. A bulleted list of next week's major closures is provided below.
"We are encouraging drivers to be mindful of reduced speed limits in the construction zones and asking drivers to slow down and give the construction workers a break," said Clifford Halvorsen, TxDOT Area Engineer in charge of the work in the area of I-610 and the I-10/I-610 Interchange. Accidents and rubber necking typically have a significant impact on traffic congestion. Slowing down through construction zones can help to reduce the chance of incident and is conducive to a safe work area. Drivers should also be aware that additional law enforcement officers will be present along the corridor to help enforce speed limits and to assist in construction zone navigation.
MAJOR CLOSURES FOR THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 27TH
• Two inside lanes will be closed on I-610 northbound between San Felipe and I-10 and southbound from US 290 to San Felipe on Monday, October 27 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Two alternate lanes on I-610 northbound from I-10 to US 290 will be closed Monday, October 27 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Two inside lanes on I-610 north and southbound from US 290 to San Felipe to will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Tuesday, October 28 through Thursday, October 30.
• Total closure of the southbound frontage road of I-610 between Woodway and Post Oak is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Frontage road traffic in the area will be detoured onto the mainlanes of I-610.
• Total closure of the northbound frontage road of I-610 between Post Oak and Woodway is scheduled for Thursday, October 30 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Frontage road traffic in the area will be detoured onto the mainlanes of I-610.
