Williams Brothers Captures Maximum Incentive for
Early Opening of New Post Oak Exit Ramp
"Major Closures for I-10/I-610 Reconstruction Scheduled Throughout the Week"
(Houston, Texas) -- Less than one month ago (April 22) the Texas Department of Transportation announced that Williams Brothers (WB) Construction was beginning their next incentive-based milestone with the closure of the I-610 southbound Post Oak exit ramp. The closure of the Post Oak exit ramp on April 24th marked the start of the milestone to construct and open the temporary Post Oak exit ramp within 60 days. In less than half the time, WB is ready to open the new temporary Post Oak exit ramp. The ramp is expected to open to traffic by 5 AM, Wednesday morning, May 19. In preparation of the new ramp opening, the existing Woodway entrance ramp to I-610 southbound will be permanently closed effective Tuesday, May 18 at 8 PM. Additionally, the right lane of I-610 southbound between Post Oak and Woodway will be closed from 8 PM, May 18 until 5 AM, May 19. Recall, there was a $20,000 a day incentive attached to the early opening of the new Post Oak exit ramp, with a maximum incentive of $400,000. As a result of the early completion of this milestone, WB has secured the maximum incentive, proving once again construction incentives work well to motivate contractors to accelerate construction.
The opening of the new temporary Post Oak exit ramp is only part of the story of what is going on this week in the vicinity of the I-10/I-610 Interchange. For two nights, tonight, May 18 and Wednesday, May 19 starting at 9 PM until 5 AM, the contractor will close the I-10 westbound direct connectors to I-610 north and southbound and the right lane of I-10 westbound between Washington Avenue and I-610. I-10 westbound traffic destine to I-610 will be detoured to exit Silber (west of the interchange) to make a U-turn to access I-10 eastbound direct connectors to I-610 north and southbound. Also Wednesday, May 19 the contractor will close the I-610 southbound San Felipe exit ramp effective at 9 PM until further notice. Traffic destine for San Felipe or Westheimer should take the new Post Oak exit.
Thursday night, the contractor will begin the preparation work to demolish the southbound lanes of the North Post Oak Bridge Structure. The bridge demolition was initially scheduled for this past weekend, but was postponed due to the threat of forecasted thunderstorms and is now scheduled for this upcoming weekend, May 21-24. Starting Thursday night, May 20 at 8 PM until 5 AM, Friday, May 21 the contractor will close the North Post Oak Bridge to re-stripe the northbound bridge structure for two-way traffic and switch both north and southbound traffic onto the existing northbound bridge. Full details regarding the North Post Oak Bridge demolition and scheduled closures are provided in the accompanying release entitled, "Demolition of North Post Oak Bridge Marks the Start of a New Milestone for I-10/I-610 Interchange Reconstruction."
