THE TEXAS TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION AWARDS THE FIFTH OF NINE CONTRACTS FOR I-10/KATY FREEWAY RECONSTRUCTION
"The Fifth Katy Freeway Contract Comes In Below Engineer's Estimate"
(Houston, Texas) --- Today, December 16, the Texas Transportation Commission (TTC) awarded Balfour Beatty Construction of Austin the fifth of the nine major construction contracts associated with the reconstruction of the Katy Freeway. The contract, referred to as Contract C2, consists of the total reconstruction of a 1.8 mile long section of I-10 from just east of Eldridge to east of Kirkwood. Work is scheduled to begin on the project in March 2005.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) accepted bids for the work on December 8th. With a bid of $84 million, Balfour Beatty Construction came in at approximately three percent under the TxDOT estimate. "We have excellent contractors working in the Houston area and we get fair and competitive bids, so when we can get a good bid under the engineer's estimate it's a win-win situation," said Gary K. Trietsch, District Engineer – TxDOT Houston District.
