OLD KATY ROAD CONVERTED TO ONE-WAY BETWEEN GESSNER AND KIRKWOOD
"Old Katy Road to Serve as Westbound Frontage Road during Construction"
(Houston) – As part of the Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is widening I-10 in the vicinity of the I-10/Beltway 8 West Interchange. A critical step in the initial phase of work for the I-10/Beltway 8 Interchange contract (Contract D) involves the conversion of Old Katy Road to one-way westbound to serve as the I-10 frontage road between Gessner and Kirkwood. This change becomes effective January 14, 2005.
Listed below are the scheduled roadway closures.
• Effective at 10 PM, January 14, Old Katy Road will be converted from a two-way roadway to a westbound only roadway between just west of Conrad Sauer and West Forest Road (east of Kirkwood).
• Simultaneously, the existing I-10 westbound frontage road from west of Gessner to east of Kirkwood will be detoured onto Old Katy Road.
• Also effective at 10 PM, January 14, the existing I-10 westbound frontage road entrance ramps leading to Beltway 8 northbound and southbound will be closed. Drivers should detour to Beltway 8 northbound and southbound from the I-10 westbound frontage road via the Beltway 8 northbound and southbound frontage roads. Direct access to Beltway 8 northbound and southbound from the I-10 westbound frontage road will be restored in the ultimate configuration of the project. The new ramp will be relocated to the east of Conrad Sauer.
• To perform the above traffic changes, alternate lanes of Old Katy Road and the I-10 westbound frontage between Gessner and Kirkwood will be closed from 10 PM, Friday, January 14 until 5 AM, Monday, January 17.
• The I-10 westbound exit ramp to access the Beltway 8 frontage roads will be closed at 10 PM, Friday, January 14 until 5 AM, Monday, January 17. Detour to Beltway 8 frontage roads via the I-10 westbound exit ramp to Gessner.
