TEXAS TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION AWARDS THE EIGHTH OF NINE CONTRACTS FOR I-10/KATY FREEWAY RECONSTRUCTION
"Katy Freeway Reconstruction Contracts from the
Harris-Fort Bend County Line to I-10/I-610 Are Now Underway"
(Houston) – On Thursday, March 31, the Texas Transportation Commission (TTC) awarded Williams Brothers Construction of Houston the eighth of nine major construction contracts associated with the reconstruction of the Katy Freeway. The contract, referred to as Contract C1, consists of the total reconstruction of 2.27 miles of I-10, from east of Eldridge to west of SH 6 and includes the construction of the new SH 6 mainlanes over I-10.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) accepted bids for the work on March 8th. With a bid of $153 million, Williams Brothers Construction came in approximately eleven percent under the TxDOT estimate. Work is scheduled to begin on the project in mid-April 2005. The award of Contract C1 represents the last of the contracts left to be awarded between the Harris-Fort Bend County Line and the I-10/I-610 Interchange. Although, there is one major contract remaining to be let in January 2007, the award of this eighth contract represents the start of the last of the major contracts required to meet the anticipated substantial completion date for the I-10 mainlanes and tollway targeted for December 2008.
