Traffic Changes In West Houston

Monday, Jun 6th, 2005

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UPCOMING TRAFFIC CHANGES IN WEST HOUSTON

"WB Captures Maximum Incentive for Successfully Completing Phase II of Construction on Contract B"

(Houston) - Drivers on I-10/Katy Freeway in the west Houston area will notice additional traffic pattern changes over the course of the upcoming weeks. Tuesday, June 7 Williams Brothers Construction (WB) will be shifting the I-10 eastbound mainlane traffic onto the new pavement over the Fry Road Bridge and opening the permanent Westgreen entrance ramp and the Greenhouse exit ramp. In order to perform this traffic switch, alternate lanes of I-10 eastbound between Westgreen and Greenhouse will be closed beginning 7 PM, Tuesday, June 7 until 5 AM, Wednesday, June 8.

WB will be performing an additional traffic switch in the vicinity of Park Ten over the weekend of June 10-13, 2005. Closures related to this traffic switch are below:

• The I-10/Katy Freeway HOV lane will be closed starting 8 PM, Friday, June 10 until 5 AM, Monday, June 13.

• Alternate lanes of I-10 eastbound between Greenhouse and SH 6 will be closed to switch traffic onto the new eastbound mainlanes over Park Ten starting 7 PM, Friday, June 10 until 5 AM, Saturday, June 11. One lane will remain open. In conjunction with this traffic switch, WB will open the new eastbound exit ramp to SH 6.

• Alternate lanes of I-10 westbound between SH 6 and Greenhouse will be closed to complete the Park Ten switch traffic at 9 PM, Saturday, June 11 until 8 AM, Sunday June 12 and again from 9 PM, Sunday, June 12 until 5 AM, Monday, June 13. One lane will remain open to traffic both nights.

The traffic switches onto new pavement at Park Ten and Fry Road mark the successful completion of Phase II of Contract B, which includes the freeway construction at both intersections. By successfully completing this milestone more than 30 days ahead of schedule, WB will capture the full amount of the incentive, equal to $300,000, for early completion of the Phase II work. After completion of Phase II, the contractor will proceed with Phase III work and west Houston area residents and drivers can expect to immediately see WB's crews mobilizing for the reconstruction of the freeway at Mason Road and Barker Cypress.
