ALTERNATE LANE CLOSURES ON I-610/WEST LOOP NORTHBOUND TO SWITCH TRAFFIC ONTO THE NEW NORTHBOUND MAINLANES
"The I-10/I-610 Interchange Contractor Successfully Completes another Major Project Milestone Early"
(Houston) - Alternate lanes of I-610/West Loop northbound between San Felipe and US 290, including the corresponding entrance and exits ramps in the area, will be closed over the course of this weekend beginning Friday night at 9 PM until Monday morning at 5 AM. The connecting ramps from the I-610 northbound to I-10 east- and westbound will also be closed during this time. Detour to I-610 northbound to exit 18th Street and u-turn to access I-10 eastbound and westbound via the I-610 southbound direct connectors. In addition, the I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound direct connector ramp to I-610 northbound will be closed beginning Friday night at 9 PM until Saturday morning at 5 AM. Motorists should detour to exit Washington and turn back to access I-610
northbound via the I-10 westbound direct connector. The multiple lane
and ramp closures are required for work crews to switch I-610 northbound traffic onto the new northbound mainlanes and to prepare detours for the reconstruction of the northbound frontage road between Post Oak and Buffalo Bayou.
The switch of traffic onto the new I-610 northbound mainlanes between San Felipe and US 290 marks the successful completion of the yet another major project milestone on the I-10/I-610 Interchange reconstruction contract (Contract F). In the case of this milestone, the contractor was not offered a bonus however; failure to meet the targeted completion date would have triggered the assessment of liquidated damages in the amount of $30,000 per day. Despite there not being a financial incentive to complete this milestone early the contractor will be able to declare successful completion of the milestone more than 45 days early.
When the mainlanes reopen on Monday morning, motorists will be driving on the new lanes of I-610 northbound and will have a reconfigured northbound exit to Woodway/Memorial; the Post Oak entrance ramp to I-610 northbound will remain closed until August 16. Additionally, the northbound frontage road traffic will be detoured to the west onto the existing I-610 northbound lanes between Post Oak and Buffalo Bayou while the construction crews reconstruct the northbound frontage. Driveway tie-ins will be provided to the businesses in area.
