TEMPORARY CHANGES FOR KATY FREEWAY
IH 10 at 610-WEST LOOP
An eastbound mainlane of IH 10-Katy Freeway will be temporarily reassigned to an exit lane at IH 610-West Loop beginning Friday, November 18, 2005. For Monday morning commuters on the Katy Freeway before the IH 610 interchange, the four lanes of the eastbound freeway will consist of two inside through lanes to IH 10 eastbound and two exit lanes to IH 610. Beneath the West Loop, the eastbound Katy Freeway regains the third inbound lane to widen to five eastbound lanes before the exit at Washington Avenue.
This weekend TxDOT will begin restriping IH 10-Katy Freeway eastbound mainlanes from Silber to IH 610-West Loop at 9 PM Friday night. The two outside lanes (right lanes) will be striped as EXIT ONLY lanes to IH 610-West Loop north- and southbound. When the lanes are reopened to traffic Saturday at 6 PM, the second outside lane will become a single exit ramp exclusively for IH 610-NORTHBOUND traffic. This lane is currently an option lane for eastbound motorists; choosing either to exit to IH 610 northbound or proceed eastbound on IH 10.
At present, the far right lane is an exit lane to IH 610 southbound and will remain a single exit lane to IH 610-West Loop southbound. All exit lanes to IH 610 both north- and southbound will remain open during the overnight closure.
Motorists can anticipate the temporary reassignment of lanes for the next four to six months.
On December 3, 2005, the IH 10 HOV in- and outbound entrances will be moved to IH 10 outside IH 610-West Loop instead of inside the Loop as it is now. This reconfiguration is required to provide work space for the construction of four interior columns for the new direct connectors in the center median of IH 10-Katy Freeway.
