Multiple Lanes Closures on I-10 this Weekend

KATY FREEWAY CONTRACTORS ARE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING MAJOR MILESTONES CORRIDOR WIDE

"Multiple Lanes Closures on I-10 this Weekend"

(Houston) –Texas Department of Transportation contractors for the I-10/Katy Freeway Program expansion will be working aggressively along the 23 mile stretch of I-10 and will have multiple lane closures in effect over the course of this weekend. In particular, the inside lane of I-10 eastbound from Kirkwood to Gessner and the I-10/Katy Freeway HOV lane will be closed starting 9 PM Friday, December 16 until 5 AM, Monday, December 19. Williams Brothers Construction (WB) will be shifting the I-10 HOV lane onto new pavement between Kirkwood and Bingle, marking the successful and early completion of yet another major milestone. Additionally, effective Monday, December 19 the I-10 HOV lane entrance ramp near Gessner will be relocated approximately 1.5 miles east (near Campbell). Related to work in this area, the contractor will close the inside lane of I-10 eastbound from Gessner to Bingle, starting 9 PM, Friday, December 16 until 10 AM, Saturday, December 17.

In the west Houston area, Balfour Beatty will be gearing up for the completion of the new I-10 westbound mainlanes on Contract A, from SH 99/Grand Parkway to the Harris-Fort Bend County Line. The phased switch of traffic onto the new I-10 westbound mainlanes in the area will mark the successful completion of the third of four major milestones on Contract A. To complete the lanes and switch traffic into its final configuration a number lanes closures will be required over the next few days. Starting this morning, Friday, December 16 from 9:30 AM to 3 PM the inside lane of I-10 eastbound and westbound from SH-99/Grand Parkway to Katy Fort Bend Rd will be closed. Tonight, alternate lanes of I-10 westbound from SH-99/Grand Parkway to Pin Oak will be closed from 7 PM, Friday, December 16 to 5 AM, Saturday, December 17. Then on Sunday night, December 18, alternate lanes of I-10 westbound from Mason Road to Katy Fort Bend will be closed from 7 PM, to 5 AM, Monday, December 19. Monday night, December 19 the outside lane of I-10 westbound at Katy Fort Bend Road will be closed from 7 PM until 5 AM, Tuesday, December 20. When the I-10 westbound mainlanes are fully re-opened to traffic on Tuesday morning, motorists will be on the new pavement in the final lane configuration. Additionally, the contractor will be completing the new intersection of I-10 at US 90 and opening the new I-10 westbound exit ramp west of Katy Fort Road. With the completion of this milestone more than 100 days early, Balfour Beatty will capture the full amount of the incentive to complete the new I-10 westbound mainlanes, equal to $2,500,000.
