TEXAS TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION AWARDS
OLD KATY ROAD BIKE LANES RELOCATION PROJECT
(Houston) – On Thursday, February 23, the Texas Transportation Commission (TTC) awarded RDV Inc. the Old Katy Road Bike Lanes Relocation Project which is part of the Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program. The contract consists of the construction of a new 2.35 mile concrete paved bike trail along the Addicks Reservoir to relocate the Old Katy Road bike trail that was previously located between Dairy Ashford and Brittmoore.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) accepted bids for the work on February 7th, 2006. With a winning bid of $1.5 million, RDV Inc. came in approximately $1 million under the TxDOT estimate. Work is scheduled to begin on the project in Summer 2006 with completion expected around Fall 2006. In the interim, the existing Old Katy Road bike trail was temporarily relocated to the south of I-10 out of the roadway contractor's construction zone creating a safer bike trail during construction. A map depicting the locations of the temporary and proposed bike trails are available on the Katy Freeway website at http://www.katyfreeway.org/OKR_Bike_Trail/OKR_Bike_Trail_Map2.html.
