TXDOT PLANS CELEBRATION OF COMPLETION
OF FIRST COMPLETED I-10 PROJECTS

"Register Today to Participate in the Month-Long West End Celebration Event in June 2006"

(Houston)- The Texas Department of Transportation appreciates the community's patience and support during the I-10/Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program in the west Houston and Katy areas. Following a major investment study, an environmental impact study and final design, the beginning of the Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program was celebrated with a ground-breaking ceremony in June 2003. Three years later, as promised, TxDOT is excited celebrate the completion of the first projects to complete. To celebrate the upcoming completion of Contract A - from the Harris-Fort Bend County Line to east of SH 99/Grand Parkway and Contract B – from east of SH 99/Grand Parkway to west of SH 6, of the Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program, TxDOT is planning a month-long event in June 2006, leading up to the official ribbon-cutting ceremony later in the month.
The final step in the completion of a roadway contract is the contractor "selling" the completed construction project back to TxDOT for final payment. Accordingly, we are branding our celebration as "Katy Sales Days" and inviting all to a month-long sales event at participating west Houston and Katy area businesses. Throughout the month of June, participating merchants will be offering the community discounts, sales and promotional items in celebration of the two contracts' completion. For more information about Katy Sales Days and to register to get personal notifications, updates and coupons, click on the Katy Sales Day icon on the Katy Website or use the link: www.KatyFreeway.org/KatySalesDays.
This promotion is designed to get traffic into local area businesses and celebrate these major milestones. Participating vendors will receive free advertisement of their participation in Katy Sales Days on the www.katyfreeway.org website and in print media associated with the campaign. Additionally, each registered merchant will receive an official Katy Sales Days poster for display on-site to indicate participation to customers. Merchant registration is open to all local area retailers, businesses, restaurants and services providers. Already, several stores and restaurants have agreed to participate and are listed on the site. These businesses include: Amazing Gifts, Babies R Us, Eye Site of Katy Mills, Go! Toys & Games, Katy Area Chamber of Commerce, Katy Mills Mall, Kitchen Collection, Moe’s Grill & Bar, and the Original Marini’s Empanada House. To register your business, go to http://www.katyfreeway.org/KatySalesDays/merchants.asp.
