EXPECT MAJOR TRAFFIC DELAYS IN THE VICINITY OF THE I-10/I-610 INTERCHANGE THROUGHOUT THIS WEEKEND
"I-610/West Loop Northbound Coming into Final Configuration"
(Houston)--Anyone driving in the vicinity of the I-10/I-610 Interchange in recent weeks likely recognizes that the reconstruction along the mainlanes of I-610 northbound is approaching completion. Over the course of this weekend, August 4-7, 2006, I-610/West Loop northbound traffic will be switched onto the new pavement between San Felipe and U.S. 290. Motorists should expect traffic delays in this area throughout the weekend and are encouraged to seek alternate routes when possible. Two alternate lanes of I-610 northbound between Richmond and U.S. 290 will be closed from 9 PM, Friday, August 4 until 5 AM Monday, August 7. Additional lane closures associated with the I-610 northbound mainlane switch are provided below.
• The I-10/Katy Freeway westbound and eastbound direct connector ramps to I-610/West Loop southbound will be closed at 9 PM, Thursday, August 3 until 5 AM, Friday, August 4. Detour to I- 610 northbound to W. 18th and u-turn to I-610 southbound.
• The I-10/Katy Freeway westbound and eastbound direct connector ramps to I-610/West Loop northbound will be closed at 9 PM, Friday, August 4 until Noon Saturday, August 5. Detour to I-610 southbound to Westheimer and U-turn to I-610 northbound.
• The I-610 northbound entrance ramp from Old Katy Rd will be closed at 9 PM, Friday, August 4 until Noon Saturday, August 5. Detour to exit 12th Street, to Hempstead Highway to access I-610 northbound.
• The I-610 northbound entrance ramp from San Felipe will be closed at 11 PM, Friday, August 4 until Noon Sunday, August 6. Detour via the Post Oak U-turn, to U-turn at Westheimer to access I-610 northbound.
• I-610/West Loop northbound direct connector ramps to I-10/Katy Freeway westbound and eastbound will be closed at 6 AM, Saturday, August 5 until 5 AM, Monday, August 7. Detour to I- 610 northbound to W. 18th and u-turn to IH 610 southbound.
By 5 AM, Monday, August 7 the new lanes of I-610 northbound will be open to traffic, including the new Post Oak entrance and Woodway/Memorial exit ramps. By all indications, the contractor, Williams Brothers Construction Company of Houston (WB), is on target to complete construction on the mainlanes of I-610/West Loop northbound and southbound in September 2006. If the contractor reaches this milestone before the March 2007 targeted completion, WB would be eligible to receive an early completion incentive of $75,000 for each day that they finish early for up to 90 days.
