FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE...
LANE CLOSURES ON I-10/KATY FREEWAY TO SWITCH TRAFFIC ONTO THE NEW EASTBOUND MAINLANES
"Another Major Project Milestone Completed Early”
(Houston) - Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) contractors, Williams Brothers Construction and Balfour-Beatty Construction, will work together to facilitate the switching of existing I-10 eastbound traffic onto new pavement between SH 6 and Kirkwood. This traffic switch covers two project limits. “This switch is a great example of how our contractors are working together along the I-10 corridor to expedite delivering the roadway improvements to the driving public,” said Greg Ranft, TxDOT –Houston District West Harris Area Engineer. The switch also marks the early completion of Balfour-Beatty Construction’s major milestone to complete the new I-10 eastbound mainlanes between Dairy Ashford and Kirkwood, which qualifies the contractor to receive a bonus of $100,000.
To perform the switch, contractors will reduce I-10 eastbound traffic in the area from just east of SH 6 to just east of Kirkwood. Alternating lanes, including the corresponding entrance and exits ramps in the area, will be closed beginning 9:00 p.m., Friday November 10 and the new I-10 eastbound traffic lanes will open by noon, Saturday, November 11.
When the I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound entrance and exit ramps re-open with the traffic lanes on Saturday afternoon, motorists will notice location changes for the SH 6 entrance and Eldridge exit ramp. The new entrance ramp from SH 6 will be moved further east, closer to Eldridge and the new exit ramp to Eldridge will now be located just east of SH 6. Also, motorists are advised that the entrance ramp from Eldridge will be closed until further notice. Detour via the entrance ramp from Dairy Ashford to access I-10 eastbound.
Please note that all closures are subject to change due to inclement weather.
