UPCOMING TOTAL CLOSURE OF I-10 WESTBOUND
BETWEEN WASHINGTON AVENUE AND CAMPBELL ROAD
"Contractor Completes Major Milestones Opening the New
I-10 Westbound Lanes and Restoring Multiple Entrances and Exit Ramps”
(Houston) Over the weekend of January 19-22, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) contractor, Williams Brothers Construction will switch I-10/Katy Freeway westbound traffic onto the new westbound pavement between Washington Avenue and Campbell Road. This major milestone completing traffic switch will require a total closure of westbound I-10/Katy Freeway from Washington Avenue and Campbell Road starting 9 PM, Friday, January 19 until 9 PM, Saturday, January 20. Traffic will be detoured to exit at Washington Avenue; to Old Katy Road to access the I-10 westbound frontage, motorists will be allowed re-enter I-10 westbound west of Blalock. As the contractor completes segments of the switch moving from west to east the I-10 westbound entrance ramps will be opened to traffic. Additionally, the I-610/West Loop northbound and southbound direct connector ramps to I-10/Katy Freeway westbound will be closed from 9 PM, Friday, January 19 until 12:00 PM, Saturday, January 20. Traffic will be detoured to I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound to exit at Washington Avenue and use Old Katy Road to access the I-10 westbound frontage road. Also closed this weekend will be the I-10 Katy HOV lane from 9 PM Friday, January 19 until 5 AM Monday, January 22. A map of the road closures and detours for this weekend’s work can be viewed using the link http://www.katyfreeway.org/i10_closure/i-10mainlanes11907.html. Motorists are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes during this closure.
This traffic switch will restore the I-10 westbound entrances to and exit from Antoine, Wirt/Chimney Rock, and Bingle/Voss. Additionally, a new Katy Road/North Post Oak/Silber exit ramp will be opened east of the West Loop. The opening of this ramp will permanently close the existing Silber exit ramp just west of the West Loop. Motorists may also use the Antoine exit and turn-back to access Silber via the eastbound frontage road. To view maps of the new lane configuration and location of new entrance and exit ramps use the link http://www.katyfreeway.org/I10_Closure/I-10_newWB_finalconfig.html
The upcoming traffic switch marks the early completion of major milestones on two Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program contracts, the I-10/I-610 Interchange contract (Contract F) and the contract immediately west of the interchange which includes the section of I-10 from Silber to Campbell Road (Contract E2). For the Interchange contract, this switch marks the completion of the I-10 westbound construction which will result in the mainlanes being in their final configuration between Washington Avenue and Silber. Motorists will notice the completed I-610/West Loop northbound and southbound direct connector ramps to I-10/Katy Freeway westbound; the opening of three westbound lanes at the West Loop; and the opening of the ultimate location of the new I-10 managed lane entrance.
For the contract from Silber to Campbell Road, the traffic switch marks the early completion of the new I 10 westbound mainlanes and restores multiple entrance and ramps that have been closed since July 2006. The new westbound mainlanes have been completed more than 30 days ahead of schedule and qualifies the contractor to receive a maximum incentive payment of $600K.
Please note that all closures are subject to change due to inclement weather. For more information on the Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program, including up to date information regarding other lane closures along the I-10 corridor, please visit the Katy Freeway website at www.katyfreeway.org or contact the Katy Freeway Public Information Office at 281-589-5924.
