Special Update on the I-10/Beltway 8 Interchange Reconstruction Status

Wednesday, Mar 28th, 2007

Special Update -- Status on the Construction Phasing of the I-10/Beltway 8 Interchange

In the January 2007 Katy Freeway HiLight* newsletter we shared with the public the discovery of an opportunity to reduce the duration of the I-10/Beltway 8 direct connector (DC) construction by as much as 10 months with the brief overlap of three connectors closed simultaneously at two separate intervals. This construction is now scheduled to begin 10 PM, Friday, April 6, 2007 with the Beltway 8 southbound direct connectors to I-10/Katy Freeway westbound and eastbound closing first. Approximately 3 weeks later, the third direct connector, Beltway 8 northbound to I-10 eastbound, will be closed.

In preparation of the upcoming closures, TxDOT is pleased to announce that the Beltway 8 southbound frontage road “flyover” bridge is open to traffic and the Beltway 8 northbound bridge is expected to open Saturday, March 31. The opening of these two bridges is expected to yield noticeable improvements in the area’s traffic flow. Motorists not needing to make turning movements at the I-10/Beltway 8 intersections can now flow freely over that intersection relieving some of the congestion in the area. Additionally, the detention ponds associated with the drainage improvements in the area are scheduled to be fully operational prior to the direct connector closures.

More details regarding the upcoming closures for the I-10/Beltway 8 Direct Connectors are available on our website by using the link below.

Please note that all closures are subject to change due to inclement weather.
