Tuesday, Apr 3rd, 2007
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE...
THE FIRST TWO I-10/BELTWAY 8 INTERCHANGE DIRECT CONNECTOR RAMPS TO CLOSE FRIDAY, APRIL 6 AT 10 PM
(Houston) Effective 10 PM, Friday, April 6, the Beltway 8 southbound direct connectors to I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound and westbound will be the first two direct connector ramps to be closed for the reconstruction of the I 10/Beltway 8 Interchange. The Beltway 8 southbound direct connector to I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound is scheduled to be closed until July 2007. Motorists on Beltway 8 southbound destined to I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound will have three detour options:
1) Exit at Westview and continue on the Beltway 8 southbound frontage road through the I-10/Beltway 8 intersection and make a left onto the I-10 eastbound frontage road to enter I-10 eastbound before Gessner;
2) Exit at Westview and travel on the Beltway 8 southbound frontage “flyover” bridge* and U-turn to Beltway 8 northbound at Kimberly to make a right onto the I-10 eastbound frontage road to enter I-10 eastbound before Gessner; or
3) Exit at Westview and continue on the Beltway 8 southbound frontage road and make a right onto the I-10 westbound frontage road and make a U-turn at Wilcrest to enter I-10 eastbound before Beltway 8.
The Beltway 8 southbound direct connector to I-10/Katy Freeway westbound is scheduled to be closed until October 2007. Motorists on Beltway 8 southbound destined to I-10/Katy Freeway westbound will be detoured to exit at Westview and continue on the Beltway 8 southbound frontage road, to make a right onto the I-10 westbound frontage road to enter I-10 westbound before Wilcrest. Maps illustrating the detours can viewed on the Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program website using the links http://www.katyfreeway.org/Beltway8/I-10_Beltway8_0407EB.html and http://www.katyfreeway.org/Beltway8/I-10_Beltway8_0407WB.html.
*In preparation for the direct connector closures, the new southbound and northbound frontage road “flyover” bridges were recently opened to traffic. The opening of these two bridges is expected to yield noticeable improvements in the area’s traffic flow, particularly during the upcoming direct connector closures. Motorists not needing to make turning movements at the I-10/Beltway 8 intersections can now by-pass that intersection relieving some of the congestion in the area. More details regarding phasing, timing and duration for each of the I-10/Beltway 8 Interchange direct connector closures can be accessed using the website link http://www.katyfreeway.org/ContractD_dc3.html.
Please note that all closures are subject to change due to inclement weather.
