ADDITIONAL CLOSURES AT I-10/BELTWAY 8 INTERCHANGE

“Motorists Should Expect Delays and are Encouraged to Avoid the Area”

(Houston) As previously announced, Friday, April 6 the Texas Department of Transportation’s contractor will be closing the first two Beltway 8-West direct connector ramps to I-10/Katy Freeway. Effective 10 PM, Friday, April 6, the Beltway 8 southbound direct connector ramps to I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound and westbound will be closed long term for complete demolition and reconstruction. The long term detours for these closures are posted on the Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program web site at http://www.katyfreeway.org/Beltway8/I-10_Beltway8_0407EB.html.

The contractor will also begin the actual demolition of the ramps this weekend requiring additional temporary closures in the area. In addition to the long-term direct connector closures indicated above, the following temporary closures are scheduled in order to perform initial demolition activities:

• The Beltway 8-West southbound frontage road between Westview and I-10/Katy Freeway will be closed beginning 9 PM Friday, April 6 until 5 AM Monday, April 9. Detour at Westview to Brittmoore to access the I-10 westbound frontage road and U-turn at Wilcrest to access the I-10 eastbound frontage road and access the Beltway 8 southbound frontage road.
• The right lane of Beltway 8-West southbound mainlanes between Westview and I-10/Katy Freeway will be closed beginning 10 PM Friday, April 6 through 5 AM Monday, April 9.

• The left lane of Beltway 8-West northbound mainlanes at I-10/Katy Freeway will be closed Saturday, April 7 from 6 AM until 5 PM.
• There will be nightly total closures of Beltway 8-West southbound mainlanes from Westview to I-10/Katy Freeway Monday, April 9 and Tuesday, April 10 from 10 PM until 5 AM. Detour to the Beltway 8 southbound frontage road.
• The I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound direct connector to Beltway 8-West northbound will be closed nightly Monday, April 9 through Wednesday, April 11 from 10 PM until 5 AM. Take the Beltway 8 frontage road exit and go through the intersection of I-10 and Beltway 8 to access the Beltway 8 northbound frontage road to enter Beltway 8 Toll Road- northbound from Westview.

TxDOT in cooperation with the Harris County Toll Road Authority, Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office and the City of Houston Police Department will station law enforcement at key locations to facilitate the movement of traffic in the area. However, motorists are encouraged when possible to avoid the area.

Motorists can expect that there will be multiple total and alternate lane closures during the course of the interchange reconstruction and should be prepared for traffic delays when traveling in the vicinity of the I-10/Beltway 8 Interchange over the next year. A 7-day schedule of proposed closures will be posted on the Katy Freeway website weekly.

Please note that all closures are subject to change due to inclement weather.
