TOTAL CLOSURE OF I-10/KATY FREEWAY AT BELTWAY 8
“Motorists Should Expect Delays and are Encouraged to Avoid the Area”
(Houston) –This weekend, July 14-15, 2007, the I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound and westbound mainlanes between Wilcrest and Gessner will be closed continuously beginning 5 AM, Saturday, July 14 until 5 AM, Monday, July 16, as the Texas Department of Transportation's contractor continues reconstruction activities in the area of the I-10/Beltway 8 Interchange. Traffic will be detoured to the respective frontage roads. Additional closures taking place in this area include:
• Total closure of the I-10/Katy Freeway westbound direct connector to Beltway 8-West southbound from 5 AM, Saturday, July 14 until 5 AM, Monday, July 16. Traffic will detour to the I-10 westbound frontage road, U-turn at Wilcrest to the I-10 eastbound frontage road to the Beltway 8 southbound frontage.
• Total closure of the I-10/Katy Freeway westbound direct connector to Beltway 8-West northbound from 5 AM, Saturday, July 14 until 5 AM, Monday, July 16. Traffic will detour to the Beltway 8 northbound road via the 1-10 westbound frontage road.
• Total closure of the Beltway 8-West southbound frontage road between Westview and I-10/Katy Freeway and the Beltway 8-West southbound frontage road flyover bridge from 5 AM, Saturday, July 14 until 5 AM, Monday, July 16. Traffic will detour west on Westview, south on Brittmoore to the I-10 westbound frontage road and U-turn at Wilcrest to access the I-10 eastbound frontage road to the Beltway 8 southbound frontage road.
• Total closure of the Beltway 8-West northbound frontage road between Queensbury and I-10/Katy Freeway and the Beltway 8-West northbound frontage road flyover bridge from 5 AM, Saturday, July 14 until 5 AM, Monday, July 16. Traffic will detour east on Queensbury to Town and Country, north on Attingham to the I-10 eastbound frontage road.
TxDOT in cooperation with the Harris County Toll Road Authority, Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office and the City of Houston Police Department will station law enforcement at key locations to facilitate the movement of traffic in the area. However, motorists are encouraged when possible to avoid the area.
Motorists can expect that there will be multiple total and alternate lane closures during the course of the interchange reconstruction and should be prepared for traffic delays when traveling in the vicinity of the
I-10/Beltway 8 Interchange over the next year. A 7-day schedule of proposed closures is posted on the Katy Freeway website weekly and can be accessed using the link http://www.katyfreeway.org/Beltway8/Weekly_Forecast.html.
