Beltway 8 Northbound Connectors to I-10 Now Open

NEW BELTWAY 8-WEST NORTHBOUND DIRECT CONNECTOR RAMPS TO I-10/KATY FREEWAY OPEN FOR SERVICE
(Houston) – Over the weekend, the Texas Department of Transportation’s contractor opened the new Beltway 8-West direct connector ramps to I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound and westbound.* The early opening of these ramps marks the completion of the contractor’s milestone to complete the third and fourth ramps taken out of service as part of the I 10/Beltway 8 Interchange Reconstruction. The completion of the ramps ahead of schedule means that the anticipated ramp closure through the 2007 holiday season will no longer be necessary. Additionally, the early completion of the ramps allows the State another opportunity to update the I-10/Beltway 8 Interchange construction phasing to optimize accelerated construction. “The early completion of ramps three and four allows us to keep all of the ramps open through the 2007 holiday season and still gives us an opportunity to advance and tweak the upcoming closures,” said Greg Ranft, TxDOT Area Engineer. Effective January 5, 2008 the next two ramps scheduled to close, the I-10 eastbound and westbound direct connectors to Beltway 8 northbound, will be taken out of service. More information on the updated closure schedule for the I-10/Beltway 8 reconstruction and specific detours will be forthcoming.

*On-going work in the area will require nightly ramp closures but motorists traveling during peak travel times now have direct connector access from Beltway 8 northbound to I-10/Katy Freeway.
