FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- CORRECTED
TOTAL CLOSURE OF I-10/KATY FREEWAY WESTBOUND & MULTIPLE I-10/I-610 DIRECT CONNECTORS RAMPS
"Motorists are Encouraged to Avoid the Area and Seek Alternate Travel Routes"
(Houston) –This weekend, starting 9 PM, Friday, February 1 until 5 AM, Monday, February 4, the Texas Department of Transportation's contractor for the reconstruction of I-10/Katy Freeway just east of the West Loop will close I-10/Katy Freeway westbound between Washington Avenue and I-610/West Loop. The I 10 westbound direct connector ramps to I-610 northbound and southbound will also be closed over the weekend. The closures are needed for the contractor to re-stripe the I-10 westbound mainlanes in preparation for his next phase of construction and for the installation of anti graffiti barriers on the new Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) bridge.* The combination of these concurrently scheduled closures is going to significantly impact traffic flow in the vicinity of the I-10/I-610 interchange this weekend. Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes to destinations in proximity to this area.
I-10/Katy Freeway westbound traffic will be detoured to exit at Washington Avenue, to make a right and continue to Old Katy Road to access the I-10 westbound frontage road and enter the I-10/Katy Freeway at Antoine. The I-10/Katy Freeway westbound direct connector ramps to I-610/West Loop will be closed starting 9 PM Friday, February 1 until 5 AM Monday, February 4. I-10 westbound traffic destined to I-610 northbound will detour to Old Katy Road, to the I-610 northbound frontage road. I-10 westbound traffic destined to I-610 southbound will detour to Old Katy Road, make a left on North Post Oak to access the I-610 southbound frontage road and enter the I-610 mainlanes after Woodway.

*Correction: The closure is to allow the contractor to re-stripe the I-10 westbound mainlanes in preparation for his next phase of construction and for the installation of anti graffiti barriers on the new UPRR bridge and not for the demolition of the temporary UPRR bridge as previously stated.
