UPCOMING I-10/KATY FREEWAY EASTBOUND TRAFFIC SWITCH REQUIRES
TOTAL CLOSURE OF MULTIPLE RAMPS
"Motorists are Encouraged to Avoid the Area and Seek Alternate Travel Routes"
(Houston) – This weekend, starting 8 PM, Friday, February 15 until 6 PM, Sunday, February 17, the Texas Department of Transportation's contractor for the reconstruction of I-10/Katy Freeway between Beltway 8 and I-610/West Loop will close the Beltway 8 northbound and southbound direct connector ramps to I 10/Katy Freeway eastbound and multiple I-10 eastbound entrance and exit ramps. The closures are needed to allow the contractor to switch eastbound traffic to new pavement between Beltway 8 and Campbell. Once complete, I-10 eastbound traffic between Beltway 8 and the West Loop will be on new pavement and the new I-10 eastbound exit ramps to Bunker Hill and Bingle will be open. Due to the combination of scheduled closures, motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes to destinations in proximity of this area. The detailed list of closures associated with this work is provided below.
• Effective, 8 PM, Friday, February 15, Kirkwood will be the final entrance to I-10 eastbound between Beltway 8 and Campbell until 6 PM, Sunday, February 17. Motorists destined to Bunker Hill, Blalock and Campbell should use the Gessner exit ramp. Traffic destined to Bingle and Wirt Rd will be detoured to exit at Antoine and U-turn to the I-10 westbound frontage road.
• Effective 9 PM, Friday, February 15, until 6 PM, Sunday, February 17 Gessner will be the final exit from I-10 eastbound between Beltway 8 and Campbell. Detour to the Antoine exit ramp.
• The Beltway 8 northbound and southbound connector ramps to I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound will be closed from 10 PM, Friday, February 15 through 6 PM, Sunday, February 17. Traffic will detour via the I-10 westbound direct connector ramp, exit Kirkwood and U-turn to the I-10 eastbound frontage road to enter the freeway at the entrance ramp from Kirkwood.
• One alternating lane of I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound between Beltway 8 and Campbell will be closed from 10 PM, Friday, February 15 through 6 PM, Sunday, February 17.
• The Gessner entrance ramp to the I-10/Katy Freeway HOV lane will be closed Sunday, February 17 from 5 AM until 6 PM.
In addition to the closures listed above, the contractor for the I-10/Beltway 8 interchange reconstruction will have total closures of Beltway 8 northbound and southbound between Westview and I-10 beginning 9 PM, Friday, February 15 until 5 AM, Monday, February 18. Traffic will be detoured to the respective Beltway 8 northbound and southbound frontage roads.
