ADVANCE NOTIFICATION OF MAJOR I-10/BELTWAY 8 INTERCHANGE CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
“TxDOT Contractor Opens I-10 Westbound to Beltway 8 Northbound and
Prepares for Next Direct Connector Ramp Closure”
(Houston) Friday, April 4, the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) contractor for the I-10/Beltway 8 Interchange Reconstruction will open the new I-10/Katy Freeway westbound direct connector ramp to Beltway 8-West northbound. That same weekend, beginning 10 PM, Friday, April 4, the I-10/Katy Freeway westbound direct connector ramp to Beltway 8-West southbound will be closed for reconstruction until August 2008 as part of the I-10/Beltway 8 Interchange Reconstruction. This ramp was originally scheduled to close in February, however as part of ongoing efforts to maintain traffic flow in the area and minimize the need for multiple detour routes, TxDOT worked with its contractor to postpone this closure until the new I-10/Katy Freeway westbound direct connector ramp to Beltway 8-West northbound was completed and opened to the driving public.
Effective 10 PM, Friday, April 4, I-10 westbound traffic destined to Beltway 8 southbound will detour via the Beltway 8 exit ramp to the I-10 westbound frontage, turn left to the Beltway 8 southbound frontage road and enter the Beltway 8 mainlanes via the entrance ramp from Memorial. A map illustrating this detour can be viewed on the Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program website using the link http://www.katyfreeway.org/Beltway8/I-10_Beltway8NB.html.
Motorists are reminded to expect multiple total and alternate lane closures and should be prepared for traffic delays when traveling in the vicinity of the I-10/Beltway 8 Interchange. Construction activities scheduled for this weekend are as follows:
• There will be a TOTAL CLOSURE of I-10/KATY FREEWAY westbound between GESSNER and WILCREST and the I-10 westbound entrance ramp from Gessner beginning 10 PM, Friday, March 28 until 5 PM, Saturday, March 29. Traffic will exit at Gessner to the I-10 westbound frontage road and re-enter the mainlanes via the I-10 westbound entrance ramp west of Beltway 8.
• There will be a TOTAL CLOSURE of the I-10/KATY FREEWAY westbound direct connector ramp to BELTWAY 8 southbound beginning 10 PM, Friday, March 28 until 5 PM, Saturday, March 29. Traffic will exit at Beltway 8 to the I-10 westbound frontage road, turn left to the Beltway 8 southbound frontage road and enter mainlanes via the Beltway 8 southbound entrance ramp from Memorial.
• There will be a TOTAL CLOSURE of the BELTWAY 8 southbound frontage road between WESTVIEW and I-10/KATY FREEWAY beginning 10 PM, Friday, March 28 until 5 PM, Saturday, March 29. Detour to the Beltway 8 southbound frontage road flyover bridge or turn right on Westview and left on Brittmoore, to access the I-10 westbound frontage road.
• There will be a TOTAL CLOSURE of the BELTWAY 8 northbound frontage road at I-10/KATY FREEWAY beginning 10 PM, Friday, March 28 until 5 PM, Saturday, March 29. Detour to the I-10 eastbound frontage road, U-turn at Gessner to the I-10 westbound frontage road, and turn right onto the Beltway 8 northbound frontage road.
