Houston, Texas (September 29, 2008) Join the Women Professionals in Government (WPG) networking luncheon Oct. 2, 2008 at The Houston Club.

WPG, a women’s professional organization, meets on the 1st Thursday of every month at The Houston Club, at a networking luncheon which hosts speaker presentations.

Just in time for the November elections, come hear “Pat”Lykos, Republican Candidate and C.O. Bradford, Democratic Candidate for the Harris County District Attorney office talk about their respective platforms for the upcoming election.

“Pat” Lykos, a graduate of the University of Houston and South Texas College of Law, has dedicated her professional career to the administration of justice, starting as a Houston police officer, working her way through college and law school, and then in her own private practice as a litigator. In 1980, the Harris County Commissioners’ Court appointed her to the newly-created bench of County Criminal Court No. 10, and she won election that year, becoming the first Republican elected to a Harris County criminal court bench.

C. O. "Brad" Bradford has dedicated his career to criminal law, public safety and criminal justice. Bradford served 24 years with the Houston Police Department, seven years as Chief from 1996-2003 appointed by both Mayor Bob Lanier and Mayor Lee P. Brown. He provided leadership in the areas of public safety and crime prevention, security for two major airport facilities and a jail that processed over 100,000 prisoners each year. Chief Bradford managed over 7,000 employees and a $500 million annual budget for a city of more than 600 square miles.

WPG was organized 26 years ago to provide knowledge, skills, and support for women working in the public sector and all related fields career growth. The organization expanded its mission to also provide scholarships to young women pursuing degrees in public service and to provide grants to non-profits serving women and children within the Greater Houston area.
