Women Professionals in Government Announces New Board with Hosts Rice University President David W. Leebron and Houston City Controller Annise D. Parker

Houston, Texas (May 12, 2009) Don’t miss this year’s Women Professionals in Government (WPG) 2009 Summer Social held at the Wiess President’s House, Rice University, 2 Sunset Blvd., Houston, TX 77005 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

WPG, a women’s professional organization, which provides keys to success working in the government and in private/public industry, will install its 2009-2010 new board members on May 13, 2009 at the home of the Rice University President David Leebron and his wife Y. Ping Sun.

This event co-hosted by Houston City Controller Annise D. Parker raises funds for the WPG’s scholarship and operating fund. Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and his wife Gwen are expected to attend, as well as various local government officials, members and special guests.

WPG was organized 28 years ago to provide knowledge, skills, and support for women working in the public sector and all related fields career growth. The organization expanded its mission to also provide scholarships to young women pursuing degrees in public service and to provide grants to non-profits serving women and children within the Greater Houston area.

About WPG
The WPG invites all women with positions in city, county, state or federal government and women having positions in the private sector that deal with government at any level to attend its meetings and join its organization. Monthly meetings begin at 12:00 p.m. with a lunch buffet. These meetings are held at The Houston Club, Grill Room, 811 Rusk. The WPG was founded in 1981, and has 501(c)3 tax exempt status. As a charitable foundation WPG is able to receive contributions from individuals, member organizations, gifts and special fund raisers for scholarships and grants.
