Walk to Sobriety…Fight Youth Substance Abuse

Join the Palmer Drug Abuse Program, PDAP staff and recovering families as they come together for the first annual PDAP 5K Recovery Walk on Saturday, March 27, 2010, 2:00 p.m., at Nottingham Park, 14205 Kimberly Lane, Houston, Texas 77079. “The 2010 PDAP Recovery Walk promises to be a fundraising success for the Palmer Drug Abuse Program’s Memorial/Spring Branch satellite,” said Amy Krieg, program coordinator, Palmer Drug Abuse Program.

Everyone is invited to join PDAP for this magnificent 5K “Walk to Sobriety”. The day will be filled with fun, fellowship, interactive games, and a silent auction. This is a family friendly event and there are many ways that you can participate. Sign up today to walk, be an event fundraiser, corporate sponsor, or to donate items for inclusion in the silent auction. Each walker raising $50 or more will receive an official 2010 PDAP Recovery Walk t-shirt.

“Each year, PDAP’s staff sees more than 5,000 youth and parents walk through PDAP’s doors desperately seeking help. As families continue to struggle financially, this number continues to rise and with your help and the help of other generous philanthropists, PDAP will be able to meet this growing need and continue our fight against youth substance abuse,” said Jean McMillan, executive director, Palmer Drug Abuse Program.

PDAP, a 501 (c)(3) organization, has been helping youth, ages 12-25, in the Houston area avoid or recover from the devastating effects of drug and alcohol abuse since 1971. PDAP’s experienced staff provides free recovery services including twelve step support group meetings for youth and their parents, individual and family counseling sessions, client assessments and referrals, crisis intervention, and community education and prevention programs. Each PDAP satellite also provides program participants with opportunities to participate in safe, sober social and recreational activities each week. These activities are essential to the recovery process.
