HOV lane Open for US 290 Westbound
Vehicles access the HOV lane at Northwest Transit Center

The Metropolitan Transit Authority has opened the US 290 High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane to all passenger vehicles to alleviate traffic problems caused by the accident at US 290 at 43rd St.

The HOV lane can be accessed at the Northwest Transit Center, located at Old Katy Rd. east of N. Post Oak Rd.

All lanes remain closed on US 290 westbound at 43rd St. because of a major accident. Vehicles will be diverted off the freeway at 43rd, then allowed to re-enter the freeway after Bingle.

Because the situation may remain through the rush hour, travelers should expect long delays on US 290. Eastbound traffic is slow also.

Travelers are urged to take I-10 West to Beltway 8 as an alternate route.
