THE HOUSTON TRANSTAR PARTNERSHIP IS DELIVERING VALUABLE TRANSPORTATION BENEFITS TO THE GREATER HOUSTON REGION ACCORDING TO THE TEXAS TRANSPORTATION INSTITUTE

“Multi-agency partnership saving citizens time and money and contributing to a cleaner environment”

(Houston, Texas) ----- According to the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI), the transportation management systems being employed and coordinated by the Houston TranStar partnership is delivering real and measurable benefits for the citizens of the greater Houston region.

The Texas Transportation Institute, a member of the Texas A&M University System and the largest transportation research agency in the nation, said in the Houston TranStar Annual Report, “The transportation management systems of Houston TranStar have reduced traffic congestion, travel time, vehicle operation cost, fuel consumption and vehicle exhaust emissions. These benefits provide travel time-savings of 5.9 million hours and a reduction in fuel consumption of 11.0 million gallons. The monetary value associated with these benefits has increased from $95.5 in 1999 to $110.9 in 2001”.

Houston TranStar is meeting the traffic and transportation demands of the region by employing a variety of mobility programs and alternatives including adding capacity to our freeway system, HOV lanes, car and van pools, signal timing, promoting public service initiatives, managing construction and maintenance project information, and flow signals at freeway entrance ramps.
