Houston TranStar Wins International Award For Its Road Construction Web Site

ROAD CONSTRUCTION WEBSITE AT GEOSPATIAL WORLD 2002
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA

(Houston, Texas) ------ On June 12, 2002, Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions and the Intergraph GeoSpatial Users Community (IGUC) honored Houston TranStar as one of the winners of their 1st Annual International Awards for Cartographic Excellence at the GeoSpatial World 2002 international conference in Atlanta

Houston TranStar, the Transportation and Emergency Management Center for the Greater Houston Region, received the first runner-up award in the Dynamic Interactive Presentations category for its Http://roadworks.houstontranstar.org web site. This award recognizes professional excellence in design, technique, aesthetics, innovation, communication and presentation.

The Houston TranStar partnership in conjunction with Applied Technological Services, Inc. of Dallas, Texas created the web site to assist in coordinating the construction activities of the Houston TranStar partner agencies.

Http://roadworks.houstontranstar.org is an application that allows each partner agency and citizens to view the current and planned construction projects for all of the Houston TranStar partner agencies. The web site further allows transportation planners the opportunity to coordinate road construction projects with other area agencies to minimize the impact on citizens and better use its valuable resources.

According to Maria Vera, GIS Coordinator for the Houston TranStar, “The Houston TranStar partnership is pleased to have been recognized by such a respected international body of GIS professionals.

We have always strived to ensure the information we collect and have access to at Houston TranStar is readily accessible to the citizens of the greater Houston region. This web site makes traveling in a growing region like the Houston area more bearable and transportation planners have a valuable tool to increase productivity and avoid work duplication”.

The GeoSpatial World 2002 International Conference attended by more than 730 registrants from 47 countries and 41 states, is by far the most impressive and influential gathering of GIS professionals in the world. During the international conference more 150 technical presentations, hands-on training workshops and strategic addresses were offered. Tracks were presented on Education, Federal/National Government Solutions, Local/Regional Government Solutions, Management and Strategic Direction, Public Works and Utilities Industry Solutions, Products and Technology and Transportation Industry Solutions.
