“AFTER ACTION” SUMMARY ON BIO-TERRORISM WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION (WMD) DRILL TO BE PRESENTED
Houston – County Judge Robert Eckels will present the “after action” summary on the bio-terrorism weapons of mass destruction drill conducted in Harris County. The exercise took place on September 8th and September 9th at Reliant Center.
“The purpose of the drill was to sharpen the coordination and response between local, state and federal agencies in the event of a biological terrorist attack,” says Judge Eckels. “The “after action” summary is a critical instrument for us in government to determine how to strengthen the processes already in place. The summary and subsequent report also helps us to identify new strategies that may be used in the event of any disaster, be it natural or manmade.”
In the mock scenario, the WMD bio-threat tularemia was released at Minute Maid Park during a baseball game and also released into the HVAC system of 22 Houston area schools. Tens of thousands of people were exposed at the ballpark and the schools.
The drill was designed to deploy the Strategic National Stockpile.
