Washburn Tunnel to be Closed Saturday for Upgrades
The Washburn Tunnel will be closed this Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. for upgrades to the emergency power system. The tunnel operates with a backup generator to allow the lights and fans to operate in the event of a loss of power. The work to be conducted Saturday represents a safety upgrade to the tunnel as it will replace manual switches with an automatic switch to the emergency power source when electricity is interrupted.
